We have recently made some innovative changes to our lens calculation programs.

When designing a lens (uncut or glazed) to a specific eyeshape, we have introduced elliptical (oval) cribbing. This provides a more stable lens, particularly when high cylinder powers are involved. Those ordering uncuts from us may notice that some lenses are no longer round but elliptical in shape.

Our computer system will decide if elliptical cribbing would be more suitable depending upon a combination of eyesize, eyeshape, decentration and sphere/cylinder/axis. This could result in one lens of a pair being round whilst the other is elliptical.

The main benefits of this change will be to improve the efficiency of our surfacing systems and service to customers.

If uncut lenses are ordered by diameter then they will be supplied in the normal 'round' format. Elliptically shaped lenses will only be supplied if we are designing to shape, when and if our calculation deems it necessary.
